My Family
Let me introduce myself. My name is Lena. My
full name is Yelena Ivanova. I am twenty and I
am a first

year student of the Ural Institute of
Humaniti
es. I live in the north

east of the Urals
in a small town. It does not attract many
tourists, though the forests around it are
beautiful and there are many lakes there, too. It
is an industrial area.
During term
-
time I live in a student’s hostel in a
room with three other girls. I do not go home
at
weekends because my home town is too far
away.
My mother has a part
-
time job as a secretary in
an office. She is busy looking after the house
and the garden. She is 42 and my father is 48.
He is a doctor. They both come from quite large
families (my mo
ther is one of six children and
my father is one of four), so my two sisters, my
brother and myself have many aunts, uncles and
cousins. My mother’s and father’s parents are
still alive but we rarely see them because they
live in another city.
My elder sis
ter Olga is twenty
-
two and works as
a secretary, too. She doesn’t really enjoy her job
and it is not well
-
paid at all. At heart she is a
lover of literature and would prefer to become a
school teacher.
Mary, my other sister, is seventeen and in her
final
year at school. She is interested in music
and plays the piano well.
The youngest member of the family is Sasha,
who is only fifteen. He is a schoolboy. He wants
to be a sportsman. He goes in for skiing and he
has the first sports grade. He is tall and st
rong
and he is the pet of our family. He plans to
become a coach.
Since the age difference between the children is
small we all get on very well with each other
and with our parents. We
are
a
happy
family
.
