Abstract. The article manifests the feasibility of geographic information system of ArcGIS, and the procedures of spatial data processing (remote earth sensing data, digital terrain models), used for gullying study. The author appl
ied complex methodology including qualitative and quantitative evaluation of the Earth crust upper layers deformation involving the archive and historic aerial and space photo survey data, as well as morphometric analysis of digital terrain model methods for neotectonic activity model development of the territory under study (the territory of the Republic of Tatarstan, RF). The author revealed a direct correlation between neo-tectonic activity and modern geodynamics manifestation: degradation areas and stable erosion patterns condition are coordinated with sustainable neotectonic regions, areas with active erosional pattern processes situated in immediate proximity to the average- and high-amplitude neotectonic upwarp. The investigation resulted in general recommendations on land use in active agricultural areas. It indicated high GIS effectiveness for development of neotectonic activity model, as well as for joint analysis of different special data types.
