A briefing paper (up to 8 pages excluding references).

Как заказчик описал требования к работе:
Выбрать одну тему из 8 указанных ниже. ,Высылаю полное описание что и как надо написать. Могу выслать подсказки как написать работу хорошо и конечно вспомогательный список литературы. A briefing paper (up to 8 pages excluding references). This counts for 50% of the module mark, and should be based on a combination of academic sources, official reports and websites, and the general and specialised business press. Since this is a briefing paper, you may, where asked to suggest solutions to a problem, offer a range of options, but you will need to consider the costs and benefits of each, and their political and economic feasibility. *** Please note that the briefing paper is to be written for a specific audience, and there is no point in wasting space telling the person commissioning it what s/he already knows*** The choice of topics is as follows: 1. A briefing paper for the CEO of a national league of your choice, analysing the current financial and competitive challenges that it faces and possible solutions. 2. A briefing paper for the Chief Regulatory Officer of UEFA, analysing the problems that have become apparent with Financial Fair Play regulations and offering possible solutions. 3. A briefing paper for the sports minister of any country in Europe, analysing the benefits and disadvantages of that country hosting Euro 2024, either alone or in partnership with a neighbour. 4. A briefing paper for the CEO of any club in the top division of your national league which has not moved or reconstructed its stadium in the last 20 years, analysing the options for rebuilding or extending its arena or moving to new facilities. [You should consider, in particular, what capacity the club needs, how this should be financed, likely revenues during the transition period, and the possible future revenues and risks once completed.] 5. A briefing paper for the CEO of a top-division club of your choice (in any country), analysing the club’s recent record in player development and transfer dealings, and suggesting what its future player recruitment strategy should be in the light of its financial situation, current regulations and possible changes in the international labour market for footballers. 6. A briefing paper for the UK Minister of Sport analysing the problems of football governance in England and what interventions it is politically feasible for her to undertake. 7. A briefing paper for the CEO of the Premier League analysing the likely consequences of Brexit for the financial stability and continued growth of the league. 8. A briefing paper for the President and CEO of UEFA analysing the problems posed for the future of football in European countries where there are small national leagues dominated by one or two large teams (e.g. Scotland, Netherlands, Denmark), and evaluating possible solutions. Keep to the page limit. Keeping your writing concise is a skill, you will be penalised for exceeding the limit. Write for the recipient of the assignment brief, not for yourself. Put yourself in their shoes and consider their existing knowledge of the subject matter. For example, a CEO of a Premier League club would be expected to know about FFP rules, whereas a prospective new overseas owner would not. Use a variety of sources for your work. Merely paraphrasing a piece of analysis by the Swiss Ramble is unlikely to earn you many marks. Combine academic research, informed press and similar sources, and primary sources such as work produced by UEFA or consultancies such as Football Benchmark. Read critically. A report by a local journalist on the local team may lack objectivity because the reporter is a fan of the club or is trying to win favour with fans. Don’t be afraid to criticise methodology or the way that data is collated. Presentation is a personal choice, but think about whether the reader of the report is likely to be impressed by the way you deliver your content. Ensure the work can be both easily skim read or read in depth. Tables, graphs, diagrams etc, especially if created by yourself, add to the quality of the report. Add value to the content. Think about the ‘because’ and ‘so what’ factors. Refer to the Postgraduate Handbook in relation to referencing, especially online references. If possible, try to find the author (individual or institutional) of a web page and a date when it was produced (BBC website pages, for example, always have this). This means that you can use a Harvard style reference in the text, and give the full URL only in the list at the end. For example, a UEFA page explaining Financial Fair Play is dated 30 June 2015, so in the text it could be referred to as (UEFA, 2015), and listed in the references as UEFA (2015), ‘Financial Fair Play: All You Need to Know’, , accessed 15 December 2016. o You do not need to insert the URL if the item is effectively available in print, even if you read it on-line. This applies especially to PDFs and newspaper articles. So, for example, the Premier League Handbook is simply Premier League (2016), Premier League Handbook, 2016/17. London. And an article by David Conn in The Guardian can simply be listed as: Conn, David (2016), ‘Chelsea and Watford Face Questions over Agent Links’, The Guardian, 14 December. In the text these would be referred to as (Premier League 2016) and (Conn 2016) Electronic Resources There are some useful on-line sources, including subscription services that are available through the University Library database pages. The EBSCO Business Source Complete database carries a number of weekly and monthly professional publications as well as academic journals with articles on football finances, for example in finance, accounting and marketing. 9 | P a g e Emerald carries some useful articles about financial aspects of football, but it is more useful for material on marketing and sponsorship. Both of these can be found at the Library’s Electronic Library page. Note that there is a specialised Google search engine for academic work: you can find it at http://scholar.google.com/ This is particularly useful for finding items like unpublished working papers that are available as PDFs. However, a search facility like Scopus or EconLit is much better for identifying published academic articles (Scopus also includes some publications from weekly and monthly trade journals). If you are working on a particular club for either assignment, it is always worth checking the on-line sources above for relevant material. A search using the normal Internet search engines such as www.google.com may also pay dividends, although you will have to define your search criteria carefully to avoid getting overwhelmed with match reports and fans moaning about the manager, the team, the board, their local rivals etc. Remember that when using databases searching on ‘football’ will bring up articles both on proper football (soccer) and on the NFL/NCAA version. Best to search on both ‘football’ and ‘soccer’. Some useful websites are: www.footballbenchmark.com A new website run by KPMG and covering several different leagues. Useful for comparisons among clubs, but there is a time-lag between the publication of club financial statements and their appearance on this site. www.footballeconomy.com This is a useful news update on stories concerning club finances, run as a spare-time activity by a Warwick University academic, Wyn Grant. Note that there is also a Football Clubs link, which takes you to press items concerning them. This is a quick way of finding out the key dates at which press stories about the club’s business are likely to have appeared elsewhere. www.sportingintelligence.com A large website organised by Nick Harris, one of the best sports business journalists around. Several items are guarded by a paywall, but there is usually a digest of them on the main site. http://swissramble.blogspot.com – A usually well-informed blogger with a financial background, who analyses leading football clubs’ financial results in depth on a regular basis. www.transfermarkt.com This is the standard site for a comprehensive list of squads, players and transfers, but always bear in mind that often figures for transfer fees are not in the public domain and may or may not include contingency payments. Also be wary of hypothetical player valuations without knowing the basis on which they are calculated. You will find some of these sites particularly useful for the financial appraisal that you have to do. Wyn Grant’s site provides a digest of news articles on individual clubs, while the case studies on the Swiss Ramble site offer good guidance on what to look for when analysing football club accounts, although the articles there are much longer. PriceOfFootball.com. He’s a clown, but does write a lot about football finance. The library aims to provide a minimum ratio of one book per ten students for essential texts. But if more copies are needed and funds permit, it can purchase extra copies. The Library needs to find out which books are in greatest demand and you can help by taking these steps: 1) Place a reservation on the book. Once you have the book details on the library catalogue screen, click Request. This means as soon as a copy is returned, you will be notified and can borrow it. It also means that library staff are notified of the demand on the book. 2) Fill in a book suggestion form, talk to staff at the library's information support desks or contact your Liaison Librarian to let us know more copies are needed
