At the beginning of my initial paper I wish to define the concept of EFL teaching and its main peculiarities in order to start expressing my thoughts about the place of English in the Kazakhstani higher education institutions. First of all, teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL) implies teaching learners whose main language is not English, which is not dominant and considered “foreign” in a non-English-speaking country. This is the main distinction between EFL and ESL teaching terms, as the latter one is used mostly in English-speaking world.
