Etymology of English Toponyms (on the Material of Toponyms of the West Midlands Region of England)

Geographical names are not just place marks on the map, they are the keys to understanding history and culture. It is impossible to imagine our life without geographical names, they are an integral part of our language, thinking and interaction with the world. Each title contains valuable information that reveals the secrets of the past in the peculiarities of the present. Decoding this information is useful not only for scientists, but also for anyone interested in history, culture, geography and language.
Geographical names often retained traces of past eras, reflecting the events, cultures and languages that shape the region. The analysis of toponyms allows us to trace the migration of peoples, the change of power, the development of languages and cultural influences.
Toponyms also help to understand human interaction with the environment in his perception of nature.

Toponyms help to understand the values, traditions and history of a particular people, as well as their perception of the world around them.
This work is dedicated to the analysis of geographical names in the West Midlands region.
The relevance of this article lies in the significance of place names, which can reveal geographical and historical information about a particular region. Place names contain data about the people, languages and historical events of a particular area. It is particularly interesting to study English place names, which have a rich history and reflect the influence of other languages. Analysing place names can increase understanding of the linguistic, cultural and historical heritage of a region, as well as shed light on the evolution of language.

Работа посвящена исследованию происхождения английских топонимов на примере региона Западный Мидленд. В ней анализируются исторические, лингвистические и культурные аспекты формирования названий, выявляются их корни и закономерности. Защита состоялась 4 июня 2024 года в РУДН, работа оценена на «хорошо». Оригинальность работы 80%.
