“Generation Z” is a term that refers to the people born after the 1990s. Nowadays, as they are paving their way into the labour market, their influence becomes more and more significant. The core beliefs of this age group are open-mindedness, academic success, and the aspiration to improve the world.
One of the main values of Generation Z is open-mindedness. Being more individualistic and secular-rational than their predecessors, the youth of today tend to assess the reality around them critically. According to the World Values Survey (2008) conducted among Chinese students, young people put less emphasis on conservative family values and religious beliefs. Furthermore, Generation Z is eager to take risks and fight for its rights. As Blacksmith (2012) shows, these days the majority of rally participants are under 25. Thus, the people of Generation Z are open to most of the modern ideological tendencies. To illustrate, Kingston (2015) claims that today’s youth have more respect for feminism and gender equality than their parents. Overall, these days young people place an accent on living a life that is free from social judgment.
